Yendi Phillipps, Miss Jamaica World 2007, to stage “Celebrity Fashion Show” for Victims of Hurricane Dean
Yendi Phillipps, Miss Jamaica World 2007, is making good on her Coronation night promise that relief for the victims of Hurricane Dean would be her primary charity project. One of the methods that Yendi will use to raise funds for this purpose is a Celebrity Charity Fashion Show to be staged in the Jamaica Pegasus Ballroom on Sunday, October 21. Main feature will be the showing of Yendi’s Miss World Wardrobe. Guest models will include some of the nation’s foremost celebrities from the fields of sports, music and fashion. Miss Phillipps is hopeful that the event will be carried ‘Live’ on television and that a telethon will be conducted.
In order to familiarize herself fully with the devastating effect of Hurricane Dean on its victims, Yendi arranged with ODPEM to tour Old Harbour Bay, one of the areas worst affected by the hurricane. The tour took place on Wednesday, September 19 with Miss Jamaica being accompanied by Charmaine Gentles, manager at ODPEM. The tour was a very emotional one as Yendi met and offered consolation to residents who had lost their homes and personal belongings and, in one case, a spouse.
Miss Jamaica World is presently on a drive to secure sponsorship for the event. The Jamaica Pegasus is providing the venue and Electrotec will provide stage, intelligent lighting and sound at significantly reduced rates. There are plans to approach corporate companies to purchase tickets to the event for staff and also efforts are to be made to secure a sponsor for the telethon. Companies or individuals, wishing to participate as sponsors of the event should contact Yendi Phillipps c/o Spartan Health Club, 9 Lady Musgrave Road; Tel. 978-2242; Fax 978-1224.
