Kamila McDonald, Miss OCS Electrical and Lighting, won the Spartan Miss Jamaica World (MJW) Beach Beauty Fast Track Competition. While McDonald, a dreadlocked entertainment broadcaster for CVM TV, stood out, chief judge Tommy James explained, "It was very competitive; all the contestants look very good, well-toned skin; looked as if they have put in a lot of work and they gave good presentations."
The Beach Beauty Fast Track Competition was held on Sunday August 9, 2009 at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel pool-side, where the 18 contestants vied for the opportunity to represent Jamaica in the Miss World pageant in Cape Town, South Africa, in December.
Stylish designs
The first appearance was in stylish designs by Port Royal Resorts and Casual Wear and Neahlis Boutique. While Neahlis designs were made from fabric depicting the colours of Jamaica, Bev Corke of Port Royal Resorts went for solid colours with some pattern.
Next, they paraded around the poolside in two-piece swimwear by Mushroom, pausing long enough before the seven judges for evaluation. They were judged on beauty of body and face, sex appeal and presentation. On the ladies' fourth appearance on the pool deck, the winner was announced. They were also presented with gift baskets from Softsheen Carson and Jergens.
The other judges for the competition were Laura Butler, Brian Rosen, Marilyn Hamilton, Valerie Bennet, Paul Arscot and Robert Richards. Fast track
The MJW Fast Track Competitions give the winners an automatic placement in the top 10 at the grand coronation on August 22. There are two more such competitions. They are MJW Fast Track Talent and the Supreme Ventures MJW Sport. The winner of the model competition held earlier was Danisha Scott, Miss Sealy Posturepedic.
The programme was emceed by Yendi Phillipps and Weston Haughton. Music was provided by Phase3. And Mickey Haughton of Spartan explained the reason for his company's sponsorship of the MJW Beach Beauty Fast Track Competition: "Spartan makes the bodies and wants to push that aspect this year."
